BART board OKs Segway use on trains

Segway users will be able to bring the scooters on BART with some limited restrictions after a BART board decision on Thursday.

The board approved a one-year pilot program covering guidelines for using Segways and other Electric Personal Assistive Mobility Devices (EPAMD) on BART.

Users will need to apply for a free permit, and follow rules regarding safety and crowd concerns. BART will begin issuing permits on August 20 and said applicants may need to wait two weeks before their permit arrives.

BART should treat Segway riders the same as bicycle, no rush hour usage, but no special permits either. One accident does not make the vehicle dangerous. It's the rider, dummy.
